Purpose of Role

To be responsible for the development and management of the Corbenic Wood workshop

About the Role

Major Tasks:



Maintaining, planning and development of the Wood workshop.



To provide meaningful work opportunities for all residents according to their abilities and skills. The resident’s work plan should be based on encouraging the development of dignity, self-esteem and independence as well as the development of knowledge and skills in Woodwork, all within the structure of equal opportunities.



Instruction and supervision of the volunteers who are part of the Wood work team.



To be responsible for the Safety and welfare of all working in the Woodwork shop.



To liaise with the House Co-ordinators to ensure that the individual’s needs are met within their work environment.



To identify and ensure that the training needs of the volunteers are met.



To uphold and contribute to the Social- Therapeutic impulse, as part of the Camphill philosophy. To be present and actively participate in the annual festivals.



Activities:

1 Safety, Welfare and Quality of work.

Ensuring that all volunteers uphold the dignity of residents working in the woodwork workshop, so that all are able to play an active part in the workshop.

The Wood workshop leader will be responsible for the care and upkeep of all tools, equipment and machinery in the workshop.

Ensuring that matters of Health and Safety are accorded the highest priority and that all requirements in terms of the law and Policies are met.

Ensuring that residents are encouraged and enabled to express their opinions and wishes.

Contribute to the development and implementation of the individual Care Plans and Risk Assessments.

To work in conjunction with other workshop leaders and attend Workshop Leaders meetings.

Support and Supervision

Supporting and supervising the volunteers and ensuring that their training needs are met, delivering on the job training as required and ensuring inductions are completed and recorded.

Take part in regular support and supervision sessions and one annual appraisal.

Co-ordination of Working Environment.

Ensuring that at all times there is sufficient cover in the workshop to meet the Staffing standards.

According the Health and Safety of residents and workers the highest priority at all times and ensuring that the procedures agreed for ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation are known and adhered to.

Maintaining Fire safety procedures and documentation as required by law.

Monitoring sensitively the actions of any person who may pose a risk to another and in consultation with the Manager, taking appropriate action in line with the Community policy when the need arises.

Operating efficiently and effectively the policies and procedures which have been agreed by the Community, particularly in relation to care plans and record keeping.

Financial Responsibilities

Administering the Wood workshop budget within the agreed limits.

5. Training

5.1 In Consultation with other workshop leaders to identify training needs.



5.2 Delivering training as appropriate e.g. workshop induction for volunteers.



5.3 Undertaking training when required

Requirements

  • Disability/Care: 1 Year Experience (preferred)

  • Driving Licence (preferred)
